Pasarene Element Series Bright 2019
Grape – Chardonnay
Where – Western Cape, South Africa
What – This is a big, intensely flavourful South African Chardonnay that delivers every single time. It is ridiculously impressive for what Pasarene are calling their “trial” wines where grapes are sourced from young sites that aren’t quite up to their flagship standard. Martin, head winemaker, suggests that the Element Series are the wines to drink whilst you wait for the flagship bottles to age. That is fine by us.
The grapes for this juice are harvested from three different sites that all have very different soils; sandy, decomposed shale and bokkeveld shale. It is then fermented in French oak before being sent out to bless the world with it’s tastiness.
There’s a whole hum of flavours to be found. Jasmine, lemon curd, sherbert lemon, fresh pineapple, creme pattisiere, warm croissant and toasted almonds are all present. It’s a ethereal mix and satisfies the Chardonnay craving every time.
Big, complex, must-try. Vegan. Low intervention. Organic practicing. ABV 13%.
